10:30 AM – 11:37 AM: Take the Geneve Airport to Brig IR train to get off at Montreux.

11:37 AM – 13:06 PM: Rue the heavy rain & winds. Head to the Migros restaurant at Montreux Forum for a delicious chicken lunch (our Swiss go to).

13:06 PM – 13:16 PM: Take the 201 bus to Chateau-de-Chillon.

13:16 PM – 15:06 PM: See the castle in a leisurely manner. Still as pretty as we remembered it though a bit cloudy on the outside.

15:06 PM – 15:41 PM: Travel from Chateau-de-Chillon to Caux via an awesome journey. Bus to Territet, transfer to the funicular train to Glion & then the mountain railway to Caux. You can take the train directly from Montreux to Caux but this journey comes highly recommended for the funicular.

15:41 PM – 16:45 PM: See the spectacular panoramic views from Caux as well as the village chapel. We got some big help from the Initiatives of Change organization who hold conferences during the summer in the beautiful Caux Palace Hotel (which inspired the castle in Snow White). They allowed us into their grounds as visitors for about 20 minutes. Do look into Initiatives of Change for any of your conferencing needs, the view is inspiring.

16:45 PM – 17:15 PM: Take the train back to Montreux (and then take the train back to Geneva).

  • We’ve been to Montreux once before but it was absolutely worth revisiting for the purpose of showing the area to our family. The whole train ride around Lake Geneva is incredible. Just look at our featured image in full.montpano
  • The reason we took the train up to Caux and not the summit of Rochers-de-Naye is that the former is within the Montreux travel zones and hence the trips costs about 1/5th of that to Rochers-de-Naye (8 CHF vs 40). If you have a Swiss Pass or something, do take the train to the summit!
  • We flew in from Barcelona the same morning of this daytrip and hence the trip starts from the airport.
  • Download the SBB app (iOS, Android) before any Switzerland trip. Super-easy to use and incredible English language support. Also read up our Switzerland transport guide.
